The Figure Skating Club 'Espoon Jäätaiturit'

Espoon Jäätaiturit ry (EsJt) is a figure skating club grounded in 1985. It is a member of Finnish Figure Skating Association.

The home rink of the club is Laaksolahti Arena in Espoo, which is the second biggest city in Finland. Espoo is situated near Helsinki (about 20 km from Laaksolahti to Helsinki City), the capital city of Finland.

EsJt has had great skaters who have represented Finland in many international competitions (f.ex. Europeans, Junior Worlds, Worlds and Olympics):

The skaters of EsJt have achieved every year (1986-2008) medals in the Finnish Championships (SM) and/or The Nordic Championships (PM). This season first time also in ISU European Figure Skating Championships (EM).

Last season 2006-2007 our skaters achieved four medals and good results in the Junior World Championships 2007:

Three skaters belong to the Team Finland 2007-2008:

Among other single skaters of our club are five younger skaters who belong to the national project team for young skaters.

Espoon Jäätaiturit has about 400 skaters including about 30 competing single skaters (in groups K1 and K2) and four synchronized skating teams (Valley Bay Synchronics, Valley Bay Synchronettes, Valley Bay Synchrokids and Valley Bay Evergreens).

Our synchronized skating team Espirales, was 2nd in Novices in French Cup International in Rouen 1999, 5th in Juniors in Spring Cup 2001 in Milano, Italy and 3rd in Juniors in Cup of St.Petersburg, 2002. Valley Bay Synchro was 8th in Novices in Spring Cup 2004 in Milano, Italy. Our syncronized skating team Valley Bay Synchronics was 1st in Novices in Spring Cup 2007 in Milano, Italy and 2nd in novices in Prague Cup 2008..

Every spring the club has an ice gala in Laaksolahti Arena. Every skater has a role in these nice, beautiful and popular shows. In 2004 the show was Pocahontas, in 2005 Kolme iloista rosvoa and in 2006 Peter Pan. This year, 2007, the show was Narnia. On spring 2008 we will show Vaahteramäen Eemeli.

In 1980's and 1990's Espoon Jäätaiturit arranged several times on September an international competition for senior and junior skaters: 'old' Crystal Ice of Espoo. In the spring 2004 there was the first new Crystal Ice of Espoo 2004 -competition for junior, novice and debs skaters. Next time it was arranged 3.-5.3.2006: Crystal Ice of Espoo 2006. Next will be Crystal Ice of Espoo 2008 on April 2008.
